Service Description

Need emergency contraception? Allcorn Chemist offers a confidential and judgment-free emergency contraception service. Our skilled pharmacy team will guide you through the process and help determine the appropriate tablets based on the timing of your sexual activity. What to expect? Our friendly team members will ensure your discretion and comfort are priority and will take you to the private consultation space. They will ask you a few questions about your health and will help determine the best options for you. Due to the nature of the medication, our pharmacy team are only able to provide it to the patient themselves. Who can take it? Emergency contraception can be provided in two different pills and is available to majority of women. Some women who are unable to utilise the combined contraceptive pill or the patch are able to take this medication, but precaution should be taken if you have any known allergies, severe asthma or if you are taking any other medications (including herbal remedies such as St John's Wart). How long after having sex can I use it? There are two types of emergency contraception; EllaOne and Levonelle. Your individual circumstances, health conditions and other medications will help guide the pharmacist to confidently assist you in finding the best fit for you. Please note that Levonelle is only effective for up to 72 hours after unprotected intercourse. Side effects? There are some side effects of the emergency contraception such as; Vomiting or Nausea Headaches Breast soreness Irregular bleeding or interrupted menstrual cycle Abdominal pain or cramps Your pharmacist will be able to better explore these with you and think about how to manage these side effects in the best possible way. Eligibility: This service is only available for 5 days after intercourse and can only be given directly to patients 16 years and older. Please note that the effectiveness of the medication declines with time so in some individual circumstances may not be suitable. In these instances, our dedicated and friendly team will support you to identify additional options you can explore. I am not 16 years old yet? Whilst we are unable to sell you this service due to legal guidelines, you can still access emergency contraception. Visit your GP or a sexual health clinic (you can find one under our useful services section) and you will be able to find the appropriate judgement free and confidential support for you.
