Chlamydia is a bacterial infection which is passed on most commonly through unprotected vaginal, anal or oral sex. But it can also be spread through contact with infected genitals, infected semen or vaginal fluid getting into the eyes, or through sharing sex toys or using sex toys which are not thoroughly washed between uses. Most people do not experience symptoms of Chlamydia, but where present symptoms can appear between 2 and 14 days after it has spread. Whilst easily treated with a short course of antibiotics, if left untreated the infection can spread leading to more significant and long-herm health problems. In females this includes ectopic pregnancy, infertility and pelvic inflammatory disease, for men it can lead to painful and swollen testicles.
